Hello everyone,my name is Melissa,i have had vitiligo for about 11 years,nobody in my family or anyone i know has vitiligo so to see other people in the same situation gives you the feeling that your not alone,

Im not too bothered about it , but have the odd days of why me , and when you try to get dressed up have that horrid feeling of the spots distry the look,but its all that, the look,its not going to kill us and when you think about it the more selfish i feel for moaning about it, there are people dying of terrible things everyday,and im here looking at my spots feeling down !!.

At the end of the day when i see other people with vitiligo i never think it looks as bad on other people and love to look at their spots,which it kinda weird lol,

I feel lucky i only got mine at the age of 22,and not when i was a child.

I like the spots on my feet and on my knees the best and if i could get rid of it i think id keep my knees the wat they are hahaha, its only skin and beauty is within.

Thank u Melissa. I just have 2 or 3 spots on my ankle snce last 20 years. But had so many issues because of that, feels so depressing.

Omg you are so full of life. I wish you could take this so easily. this is very hard to cope up with in my life unlike you. I feel it is more psychological disease, now for me selflove is the only thing that keeps me going. Wan to amke new friends with similar conditon to know their views better.

Melissa, you are a lovely young lady and a person to be admired. As I read your writeup, seemed to me like I had heard this before and I had--when talking to myself. I am a 64 year old Hispanic and VIT started a few years before my retirement--2006. At times I have felt that the VIT is blending in with the lighter parts of me and have said "not bad". I have a brother&a niece that have shown signs of VIT but in them--it showed up and did not progress. At first I thought it was the stress but my brother is a doctor and while it showed up in him it has not progressed--and my goodness he certainly has alot of stress. I too have my down days and they especially get aggravated when I have to go to the closet to pick what I am going to wear. I am back in Texas and heat is intolerable so this year I finally started wearing short sleeve in public and I continue to open up more about my VIT. Your thoughts are so similar to mine. Admire your "badge of courage" and you are a great example to follow. Thank you for sharing. A Texas friend--Cris

Hi Melissa,

I really love it when you say; "It's ONLY skin and the BEAUTY is within." I hope many of us will hold on to that quote and know that it does not matter what other may think or say, we are BEAUTIFUL!
