Dr. John Harris received his MD and PhD degrees in 2005 at the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) in Worcester, MA. His PhD research was focused on understanding how the immune system causes juvenile diabetes. He decided to take what he learned while studying juvenile diabetes and apply it to better understanding what causes vitiligo. He did his dermatology residency and postdoctoral research training in 2006 at the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) in Philadelphia, PA. During this time he developed a new mouse model of vitiligo to allow him to study how vitiligo works. Once he graduated from UPenn, he accepted a position back at UMMS as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Dermatology, and he now sees patients with vitiligo and does research on vitiligo. His current focus is on the development of new vitiligo treatments using his mouse model and patient tissues, and he is also running a clinical trial to test a specific new treatment for patients with vitiligo.

Camille Hankey is a Certified Licensed Massachusetts Massage Therapist. The National Institute of Health reports that emotional distresses along with several other factors are triggers to vitiligo and the way that it progress. Experts estimate that upwards of ninety percent of diseases today are stress related. While eliminating anxiety and pressure altogether in this fast-paced world may be idealistic, massage can, without a doubt, help manage stress. Ms Hankey will share stress relieving techniques as well as offer foot massages.QUESTIONS: Please send your questions for our speakers. firstname.lastname@example.org This 45-minutes Q and A session will be recorded LIVE...

2010 Conference COMMENTS
The format and the structure of this conference was great
This was empowering, I THANK you!
This group has opened my eyes not only to my skin condition but it has also opened my eyes to God.
This was professionally done, thanks!
I got my wife back when she took off the make-up
I will HUG more people with Vitiligo
The doctor, the president, and the handout everything was incredible
I see myself ugly, I look like a spotted cow, I have a sad face, and this is hard for me.
Too much of the steroids creams can thin out the skin
It's not the cover of the book, it's what's inside
I will stand TALL with greater self-esteem
I want to keep in contact with everyone
Don't let people put you in a SPOT...you already have SPOTS
I want people to know that this is NOT a disease; it is a disorder of the blood cells.
I admire the support shown by the spouses.
I really saw my wife's Vitiligo when I took a photo of her several years after she had had the condition for a while
NO children under 12 should attend...only if they have the condition
Dr Vaneeta was beautiful, informative and the hand-out was great!
Miss Norene was just excellent.
I will approach people with the condition NOW instead of starring
You need a bigger space.......looks like you are growing
I WILL look at people with Vitiligo differently
I am so happy my wife (Our President) stop wearing the makeup, because I love her anyway...anyhow...with or without vitiligo.....she is wonderful!
As we close our 2010 VITFriends time-together, everyone had an opportunity to share just what this weekend meant to them and what they had gained. We watched a short video to help to remind us to be gratefully for all that we have in our lives. The question that we were left to ponder is: Are we ready to FACE the world: http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=ciYk-UwqFKA&feature=related
Finally, Shirley a VIT person from Medford, MA; prayed to God that our group may be strengthened and grow and reach more people.

14. This conference has been an eye opener for me. I will look deeper within.
.....as we closed our 2009 VITFriends time-together, president Valarie gave a string of pearls to everyone and asked that we give it to someone in the circle and share words. Words of how you've enjoyed this meeting and also the time with that FRIENDS. This was a very moving time! Although the pearls shared were NOT real, the words shared were all so real and so also were the TEARS that flowed....
